Anouk is passionate about the challenges presented by privacy and data protection legislation since well before the entry into force of the (in)famous General Data Protection Regulation (‘GDPR’). In this field she is ranked as a rising star in The Legal 500, being praised by clients for her ‘very strong knowledge of European privacy and data protection legislation’, and ‘the great ability to make complex legal issues in that area comprehensible for the client together with a commercial mindset and a solution-finding attitude’.
Anouk assists both international and national companies in such matters as investigations conducted by the Belgian Data Protection Authority, GDPR compliance audits, the assessment and notification of data breaches, and the set-up of complex data-driven collaborations of strategic commercial importance. In addition, she has detailed knowledge of, and extensive experience in the application of the ePrivacy legislation, in particular as it applies to the motor vehicle industry. Anouk is the Data Protection Officer for the Flemish Bar Association.
Anouk is teaching assistant at the Catholic University of Leuven (Centre for IT & IP Law), where she teaches a course on data protection to bachelor and master students of the law faculty.
Anouk has edited and co-authored a 300-page monograph (2019 and 2022), containing a practical analysis of the GDPR and the application thereof in practice. In addition, she is regularly asked as a speaker on data protection topics and is the author of various articles on privacy and data protection. She is furthermore an affiliated researcher at the multidisciplinary Research Group on Law, Science, Technology & Society (‘LSTS’) of the Free University of Brussels (‘VUB’). As of 2020, she also teaches a course on data protection at the Flemish Bar Association’s institute for lawyers-trainees in preparation of their bar exam.
