Federations play an important role in society. They bring undertakings together, provide a platform for dialogue and knowledge exchange, and represent the interests of their sector. Precisely because federations bring competitors together, it is essential that they pay particular attention to compliance with competition law.
The aim of this Toolbook is to help federations and their members better understand and assess competition law risks, but above all to structurally embed compliance within the organisation’s day-to-day operations and culture.
This Toolbook is structured around the questions that federations have most frequently asked Faros in recent years. This practical approach ensures that the topics addressed are relevant to the specific situations faced by federations and their members. The Toolbook is therefore aimed not only at federation staff and board members, but also at undertakings that actively participate in working groups, committees and projects within a federation.
Throughout the Toolbook, you will find practical tips, examples and recommendations to help federations get started. This Toolbook does not, of course, replace legal advice. Nor does any failure to observe the principles set out in this Toolbook automatically constitute a serious breach of competition law. Much depends on the specific facts and circumstances. Nevertheless, it is strongly recommended that the recommendations in this Toolbook be strictly adhered to. Doing so significantly increases the chances that a federation’s activities will not be questioned under competition law.
